Five Star rated books from 2024 and 2025
While I worked full time at a public library, I had a lot of time and resources to find books to read. And read I did. Incessantly. I haven’t shared my five star reads from those years and ever since I’ve moved, I keep thinking about them. I have a system where I did not buy any books throughout the year; I would read library books exclusively and then go back to my five star reads. If I could not stop thinking about it, or if I knew I would want to read it again, to keep it close, then I would choose one or two books to buy.
Prior to moving, I quickly realized that I would have to donate a large portion of my books; I just had too many to realistically move with. So, my collection was pared down, and then pared down again, and again one more time. The apartment I currently inhabit does not have the space for any more books and I know I’ll be moving again at some point, so I’ve decided not to indulge in buying any more books for the time being. I know, just saying it hurts my heart. Instead, I will share my love for them here. This will also act as a wish list for myself, when I live in a big, beautiful apartment with shelves and shelves for all my books.
2024
A special shout out to Poor Things, A Psalm for the Wild Built, A Prayer for the Crown Shy, Bookshops and Bonedust, Welcome to the Writer’s Life, and The Chromatic Fantasy. I have these books in my personal collection and would happily haul them to another state again.
2025
Again, a special shout out to The Unworthy, The Strange Library, The Spellshop, Lore Olympus, and Orbital (which happens to be the One Book, One Chicago choice this year!). These all live in my current collection.
Short and simple post today, just some book appreciation. I hope you find your next read from either of these lists. If you do, you are legally required (not really) to tell me so we can gab about them together. I can’t wait to have a five-star rated list for 2026, so stay tuned :)
Thank you for reading, and I’ll see you next time.
